Since the title suggests, this is the first formula I ever used. I pretty much foundation most variations surrounding this one. Its an excellent place to start if you’ re new to making green smoothies with a Blendtec or Vitamix.
I buy the majority of my ingredients inside my local grocery store (h ere in NEW YORK CITY I use Fairway) and sometimes I’ll obtain things at Investor Joe’s (like their particular bags of kale). I don’t buy anything at all organic, in part due to cost and in component because I’m actually not sure how important you should do so—I might change my strategy as more study comes out.
Here is the basic recipe:
- three or more cups or so of Kale. OK We never measure the kale, but if it’s in the stalk Sick just rip away about two handfuls worth, and in the event that its loose—like the Trader Joe’s bags—Ill fill to regarding halfway up the Kitchenaid pitcher (is presently there a better name with this thing? ).
- 1/2 of a large cucumber. I generally simply chop it correct in the glass pitcher like—I watched Later on Rogan do this take a look at emulate him?
- Lime green (or lemon) juice. You would have fresh lemons or limes around Ideally, but We find this a lot of work, so I purchase lime juice concentrate in the grocery store. Seems to be fairly similar, is cheap, and far easier.
- Frozen Raspberries. I try to use these moderately (maybe an 1/8 of a cup (? )), since they are, naturally , fruit, but it will add a nice taste so experiment with all of them.
- Some water. I’d imagine about ? of the cup, just to guarantee the smoothie isn’t as well thick. You have to play around with this really. Something about green smoothies v. juicing is that you end up with A LOT of volume when blending typically. I fill a pint glass usually, drink some straight down, then fill it in return up. If you add too much water, you might have enough to fill two pint glasses. Anyways, not the worst problem to have. And you can share always.
- 4-6 ice cubes. I don’t add these always, but it is thought by me makes smoothies a little easier to drink. If I have the constituents around, I’ll include:
- That’s it really.
- Fresh ginger. In regards to a 1/4-1/2 inch piece. Just rinse and toss in. Provides a nice spice, and ginger has good detoxification properties really.
- Cayenne. Adds a bit of a kick Obviously. Don’t like adding this with ginger Honestly, since they together are a little overpowering.
- Beets. There is a ton of benefits to consuming beets. Unfortunately, they make any smoothie taste earthy realllllly. Not really terrible, but not some thing I love. Also, earning sort of a mess and may stain your clothing. You can see I place beets in the smoothie pictured right here.
- Frozen spinach. I usually have frozen spinach around so within a pinch I’ll throw some in, either in addition to kale or of it instead.
Elements I’ve thought about adding but haven’t however:
- Protein powder. I actually buy Gold Regular Double Chocolate (Optimum Nutrition 100% Designer whey Gold Standard, Dual Rich Chocolate two Pound ), that i love, but I’m not sure it will work well with a green smoothie really. Revise: I actually just bought this (Body Castle Whey Protein Natural powder, Chocolate, 31. two Ounces (Pack of 2)
) protein powder on Amazon since it was had and cheaper more protein/scoop than Gold Standard. Well see how it really is.
